AFT'S ONLINE 'T-SOURCE' TARGETS NEW TEACHERS

The AFT has launched "t-source," a new online forum (http://www.t-source.org/) that will provide professional resources and communication opportunities with a special focus on teachers entering the profession. T-source is part of the AFT's ongoing commitment to address teacher retention, a major problem facing education. Nearly 33 percent of beginning teachers leave the profession after only three years, and almost half leave after five years. Developed with Generation Y teachers in mind, t-source is a place to get basics and support quickly. Its interactive features allow educators to access research-based information and to reach out to each other. Features include discovering best practices; configuring a well-designed classroom—by using an interactive tool letting teachers arrange their classrooms in a virtual environment; establishing rules and procedures; and working with paraprofessionals and parents.
