A new report emphasizes the importance of a union contract for workers at every level, especially low-wage workers.
The AFT's Faculty and College Excellence Web site just got a face lift, so to speak. Along with a new, easier-to-use design, the site now incorporates the popular blog, FACE Talk, on its main page. But don't take our word for it. Go to the site yourself.

The State Senate passed the Connecticut Healthcare Partnership bill (HB5536) we have been supporting. This important legislation allows the state employee health plan to be offered to municipalities, non-profits and small businesses.

It will provide a good plan, save local tax dollars and help us move towards quality, affordable health coverage for everyone in the state.

The bill has been sent to the Governor and she is hesitant to sign it

WE NEED CALLS AND E-MAILS to her office today!

Call Governor Rell at 860-566-4840 or click here to email Governor Rell.

AFT Connecticut's 61st Annual Business Convention will take place on Saturday, May 17, at the University of Connecticut Student Union at the Storrs Campus.

Be sure to register your local's delegates to the convention.

AFT Members Hit by Wildfires in Southern California

Contributions urgently needed for many AFT members across Southern California.

The payroll for the 10 highest-salaried state officials has more than doubled in the last 20 years, to $1.9 million.

The president of the University of Connecticut topped the list of the best-paid agency heads for 2006, as it did 20 years ago. The job today pays slightly more than four times its 1986 salary of $95,000.

Two decades ago, the president of the state's flagship university made $17,000 more than the governor of Connecticut. Today, the gap is $235,000.

UConn President Philip E. Austin makes $385,000 a year. He last got a pay raise two years ago - $72,000.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell gets $150,000 a year. The governor's salary was last raised six years ago, when it was nearly doubled from $78,000.
