Sick Leave Bank

We are pleased to announce the re-opening of the AFT Sick Leave Bank.

This program is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Board of Trustees and the Federation of Technical College Teachers.

1. WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

All who wish to join voluntarily and contribute three (3) of their sick days to the Bank.

2. WHAT IS THE BENEFIT?

In case of a catastrophic or extended long-term illness, you may draw additional days from the Bank.

3. WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS TO DRAW FROM THE BANK?

In the event of a catastrophic or extended long-term illness and if you have exhausted all sick, personal and /or vacation leave or any other compensatory time due, if the injury or illness is not covered by Workers’ Compensation and/or such benefit has been exhausted, and an acceptable medical certificate supporting the absence is filed, you may draw from the Bank.

4. HOW IS THE BANK REGULATED?

A joint committee of two Federation and two Employer representatives administer the program.  They may open the Bank no more than once a year for further contributions to the Bank.  Unused days are carried over from year to year.

5. WHY THE PROGRAM?

Actually, it is like an income protection insurance policy.  If all goes well you may never have to use it.  But, if some unforeseen occurrence should come about, you have the protection.  Unlike an insurance policy, there is no out of pocket expense.  Participation involves contribution of three (3) of your accumulated sick days.

Even if you have a large number of accumulated sick days, you never know when and for how long a serious illness of injury may cause you extended problems.  The donation of three (3) sick days also allows members to assist each other in a time of emergency.

CLICK HERE TO VIEW AND PRINT OUT THE EMERGENCY SICK LEAVE BANK APPLICATION.

Please complete the application and return it to the Federation of Technical College Teachers (FTCT) president on your campus no later than DECEMBER 31.
