Letter to the Federation from President Dennis Bogusky
March 25, 2008
Roberta Golick issued her award for our contract this afternoon, and we are very pleased with the results.
1. The issues where the Board proposed language that would be less than what we have currently were not awarded to the Board. They include preamble, work hours, Friday and Saturday assignments, special appointments, time in rank for promotion, requirement of Dean Approvals for promotion and layoffs. CURRENT CONTRACT LANGUAGE PREVAILS
2. Our main event issue of 50 minute labs, studios, etc: "A differential of 20% per contact/credit hour shall be paid for any contact/credit hour scheduled for 60 minutes. The premium for any contact/credit hour in excess of 50 minutes but less than 60 minutes shall be paid on a pro-rated basis
The full value of this differential shall be 20% of the salary grid mean divided by 30"
THIS WAS AWARDED TO US
3. Promotion fund and equity fund dollars were awarded to us at 95% for each year of the agreement. The Board's Offer was zero for each year of the agreement
4. $8,500 new Professional Development fund for Part Timers were also awarded to us
5. Salaries for each year of the agreement
Retro active to July 2007 3% plus increment
July 2008 3% plus increment
July 2009 3% plus increment
Lump sum payments each year for those at
top step, retro to July 2007
6. All other wage and non wage related items increase by 5% for each year of the agreement retro to July 2007. This is in addition to the improvements already agreed to in evaluation, travel, professional development, etc. See the “Final Agreed Upon Language.”
In summary, we defended and kept our superior language, we achieved our most important issue; we also achieved monies in excess of 3% over the board’s offers; and, through negotiations, we improved and resolved many other areas of the contract.
I extend my thanks to each and every member of the Negotiating Team for all your efforts and hard work that made this award possible. I also want to thank Steve and Dave from the 4c's for their testimony and support.
The next step is the Legislature. We are well in time for this to be taken up in the current session. Assuming all goes well, we should expect to receive new monies in early June.
I also want to give an update on the other reopeners.
